A house in North Canterbury.
A family. One kiln in the garage.
A river birch by the window.
Who we are
We live in North Canterbury, on the South Island of New Zealand. A married couple, both programmers for many years before the first pot. Clay came late; we learned it together. One of us designs and prints, the other glazes. The kiln stands in the garage, behind the house.
The name
A river birch grows beside the house. Every summer it sheds its bark in paper-thin curls — not an ending, only changing. The name fits the work: vessels made line by line, always becoming.
The practice
Our current body of work is Wabisabi — thirty-three vessels in porcelain. Each printed, glazed, and fired here. The fire never repeats itself; no two pieces come out the same.
